First responders often face barriers to accessing specialized mental health care. Learn how the independent nonprofit 2nd Alarm to Second Wind Foundation helps provide advanced mental health treatment and recovery support to those who serve our communities.

Supporting First Responders Beyond the Therapy Room

At Second Wind Counseling, we are deeply committed to the mental health and wellness of firefighters, first responders, and the individuals who serve our communities every day.

Through our work, we have seen firsthand that some responders require a level of care and support that extends beyond what insurance, departments, or traditional resources can provide. Intensive trauma treatment and specialized mental health care are often out of reach for those who need them most due to systemic barriers, difficulty finding culturally competent and responder-informed clinicians, and, at times, financial limitations.

That is why the 2nd Alarm to Second Wind Foundation was created.

About the Foundation

The 2nd Alarm to Second Wind Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping first responders, and their families access advanced mental health treatment, trauma recovery services, wellness support, and other critical resources.

The foundation’s mission is to remove systemic and financial barriers and provide hope, healing, and support to those who spend their lives helping others.

Donations made through 2ndalarm.org are directed to the nonprofit foundation and its charitable programs. Second Wind Counseling does not financially benefit from donations made to the foundation.

How You Can Help

Community support helps provide:

  • Assistance for advanced trauma treatment

  • Access to responder-focused mental health services

  • Wellness and resilience resources for responders and their families

  • Financial assistance for advanced specialized treatment or when yearly EAP services have been exhausted.

Every contribution helps make specialized support more accessible to those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

For those who’ve seen too much and held it all in,

this is a Place to lay it down, Tend to the injuries no one else sees, and move Forward with Renewed Strength!
